Professor Mark Peterson, a specialist in early North America and the Atlantic world, joined the Yale History Department in July 2018 from the University of California, Berkeley, where he served as department chair from 2015-2018.  Professor Peterson will workshop his paper “An Intoxicant Town in the Empire of Goods: Notes toward a History of Early Modern Desire.” Bennett Parten, a graduate student from the History Department, will serve as respondent. The workshop will run from 12 to 1:30pm, with a light lunch served from 11:30am.
